Are you updating your homeowners Insurance policy and now your adjuster wants an Independent Appraisal in order to insure your jewelry?
Did you inherit some jewelry and don't know it's value, or even if it is real or worth appraising?
Many people don’t understand the necessity of an appraisal. If your jewelry item or ring as purchased for less than $500, perhaps you don’t need it. The more expensive and unique the jewelry item the more vital this type of verification can be.
1. An appraisal will let you know the ring or jewelry items true worth – this is especially important if you purchase an antique or vintage piece, or create a custom ring or necklace.
2. An appraisal is needed to insure your jewelry for the proper amount. Values of precious gems and diamonds fluctuate with the market, gold prices are soaring. The item you bought several years ago may have gone up dramatically in value. If disaster were to happen and a loss of your item occours you may find your item under valued by old documentation or just your sales receipt. Insurance companies will not adjust your settlement to current prices, they go with what documentation you provide on your item prior to a claim.
3. An appraisal is often necessary when you are traveling to another country and must pass through customs. You may have bought your item in the US but when re entering the US they may assume you purchased your item during your trip and assign a duty to be paid. This can be an uncomfortable situation.
4. An appraisal is a must if you may sell the piece so you can verify its worth to potential buyers.
The goal of Jewelry Appraisers of Florida is to provide accurate evaluations and appraisals for jewelry owners. Considering that many people have a jewelry accumulation which may value out greater than many cars and homes it is important that they be documented, appraised and insured properly.
The perfect opportunity for obtaining proper insurance on your item is when purchasing your homeowners insurance or renters insurance. Ask you agent what you will need to have your jewelry items properly insured.
A jewelry appraisal can be done on any item of jewelry. Our appraisers are highly experienced at evaluating Diamonds, Emeralds, Sapphires, Tanzanite, Opals, Rubys, Pearls, Gold, Platinum, Titanium, and any other jewelry item.
Unmounting gemstones are not a requirement, in fact the jewelry being appraised doesn't even have to contain a gemstone. Our appraisers are highly skilled at evaluating diamonds and gemstones in their original mountings.
The purpose of a jewelry appraisal is to evaluate the exact qualities of your item, document them properly and put a dollar value on the jewelry being appraised, often for insurance purposes.
While some appraisal agents also offer insurance policies, it is best to turn to an independent insurer for the same reason that you would prefer an appraiser unaffiliated with the original jeweler. This way you can be certain that there is no hidden bias designed to drive your costs higher, and you guarantee the best coverage for your ring.
At Jewelry Appraisers of Florida we do not offer Jewelry insurance. We provide you with the correct documentation to take to your insurance agent in order to have it properly insured.
No one expects anything to happen to their jewelry, but misfortunes do occur. Robberies, muggings, house fires or simple accidents can destroy an item or jewelry, and having a proper appraisal and insurance coverage can help recover some of the damages.
Don't wait for a disaster to happen to test how well you are covered.
An appraisal might also be necessary to settle an estate or a divorce.
You might want to verify an item's true market value before you commit to a purchase.
